Hope that derelict land in North Glasgow could be transformed and used for much-needed community facilities have been dashed – for the time being.
Robroyston residents were keen for the site, around 10 acres, to be developed for the good of the area.It sits on Saughs Road on the other side of the dual carriageway from Asda and the new retail park. But the owner of the land – a Jersey-based trust – has refused to sell.
Dawn Developments has been looking at the possibility of developing the site and has been in talks with the owner.
Steve McConnell, development director with Dawn Developments, said: “We would be delighted to be involved in the site, but we have been told, at this stage, it is not for sale.”
Springburn MSP Paul Martin said: “Along with the community council and local councillors, I will be writing to the owner of the land. This is a piece of ground that has no purpose.I think the owners have to start taking some responsibility for the upkeep of the land as it is in a poor condition. It’s important that plans are made for the future of the site.”
