A frustrated Springburn resident claims the public halls should be developed into a sports centre.Plans are being developed to refurbish Springburn Halls, which have lain derelict for more than 25years, into business units and a children’s crèche.
Spectrum Properties (Scotland) has submitted a planning application for the development. It also wants to develop land adjacent to the halls to build 27 two-bedroom flats and a car park.
Springburn MSP Paul Martin said: “I can understand people reminiscing about the past and how the halls used to be a sports centre, but one of the reasons it was closed was that Springburn Leisure Centre opened. It is a very popular facility and is less than half a mile away from the halls, as is Balgrayhill Community Centre.I don’t think it would be possible to develop the halls into a modern sports facility.A business centre can serve the community and could bring employment to the area.”
